An unusual pair of Black Forest style carved wooden bookends, made in Switzerland or southern Germany in approximately the 1930s. They feature carved horses' heads, unusual because most are of bears or dogs. The heads are beautifully and sensitively carved, and they have inserted glass eyes. They are mounted on angular wooden bases with felt stuck to the bottoms.
The horse on one bookend has minor chipping to his ears and has had his nose broken off and glued back on at some point. Otherwise they are in good condition with minor wear.
