A charming Chinese carved soapstone brush wash, dating to approximately the mid 20th century. This would have been used by a calligrapher to wash his brush whilst working on a piece of calligraphy. It is carved out of creamy coloured soapstone with pink and red tinges and is decorated with various auspicious creatures - a pair of goats, a rat, a fox and a magpie.
