Dimensions:

W: 12cm (4.7")H: 21cm (8.3")D: 12cm (4.7")

A 19th century melon-lobed glass barber bottle, with six lobes to the body. It is hand-blown out of richly coloured green glass and has a polished pontil mark to the base.

The bottle has a cork stopper topped with a loop and a rare Prussian 3 Groschen Posen coin, dated 1816. These provincial coins were only minted in small numbers and are scarce.

Barber bottles were in common usage during the 19th century. Barbers  provided their own bottles which they filled with products such as hair oils and tonics. Bottles tended to be quite distinctively shaped and coloured to ensure that the barber was easily able to identify different products.
